Reunite With Your Loved Ones Through Canada’s Family Immigration Programs
Canada values family reunification and offers various immigration programs that allow Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their loved ones to join them in Canada. At Canada Migration Office, we help you navigate the sponsorship process with clarity, care, and precision — so you can bring your family home, permanently.
What is Family Sponsorship?
Family Sponsorship is a Canadian immigration program that allows eligible citizens and permanent residents to sponsor close family members for Permanent Residency. Sponsored family members can live, work, and study in Canada and enjoy the full benefits of Canadian PR.
Who Can You Sponsor?
As a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, you may be eligible to sponsor the following family members:
1. Spouse, Common-Law Partner, or Conjugal Partner
You can sponsor your partner if you are legally married, in a common-law relationship (living together for at least 12 months), or in a conjugal relationship.
2. Dependent Children
You can sponsor your biological or adopted children under the age of 22, or older if they are financially dependent due to a disability.
3. Parents and Grandparents
You may be eligible to sponsor your parents or grandparents through the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) or apply for a Super Visa for long-term visits.
4. Other Eligible Relatives (in rare cases)
In specific circumstances, you may be able to sponsor a relative if you have no other eligible family members in Canada.
Sponsor Eligibility Requirements
To sponsor a family member, you must:
-
Be at least 18 years old
-
Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or registered under the Indian Act
-
Live in Canada (or prove intention to return if living abroad as a citizen)
-
Prove you can financially support your sponsored family member
-
Sign an undertaking to support them for a specific number of years
-
Not be in default of a previous sponsorship, immigration loan, or court order
Financial Requirements
For spouse and dependent children, there is usually no minimum income requirement.
For parents and grandparents, you must meet the Minimum Necessary Income (MNI) level for the last 3 tax years and provide official proof (e.g., Notice of Assessment).
In all cases, sponsors must sign a legal agreement (undertaking) promising to support the sponsored person financially for:
-
3 years (for spouses/partners)
-
10 years (for parents/grandparents)
-
Varies for dependent children (based on age)
Required Documents
While each case is unique, common documents include:
-
Sponsor’s proof of status in Canada (PR card, citizenship certificate, etc.)
-
Proof of relationship (marriage certificate, birth certificate, etc.)
-
Financial documents (tax assessments, employment letters, etc.)

Identity documents of the sponsored person (passport, national ID)
